Reciprocal Teaching / Peer Teaching

For me, this started when I was a High School Senior and my girlfriend was one of the leaders in organizing "Freshman Orientation' at Webster Central High School. We considered what and how to teach Freshmen to help them, and to create a better school. Interestingly, it pointed out yet another aspect of my own lack of background knowledge - vocabulary.....I had no idea what 'orientation' meant as we got started.....

Now I have initiated a wide variety of teaching moments for students - in their own classrooms, in nearby classrooms at the same grade level, and in classrooms of younger students. All have proven highly successful both for academic content of both groups and for character development of the 'little teachers'
