Arts Integration

Latest Developments

 

The biggest recent development has been being the primary author and then the funding of a grant proposal to support Arts Integration through a partnership between ArtsNow and Cherokee County Schools.  This is my third such large funded project (nearly $2 million over four years) and it is designed to do a lot of good for students and teachers.

Oak Grove ES // Implementing 'Students as Teachers'

Oak Grove 4th graders have been reading, thinking, and drawing with Kindergarten students.  Wonderful results were 1) Kindergarteners learning about literal and metaphorical/figurative meaning of selected idioms, involving the 4th graders drawing the literal meaning, then teaching the Kindergrteners, who drew and described the metaphorical meaning - "when pigs fly - it will never happen"

Dixie ES // Implementing 'Students as Teachers'

 

Lexington KY  Nov 2014 - Dixie 5th graders learned and taught a lot during their first visit to their buddies in 1st grade.  A special outcome was discovered during the 5th grade reflection when a couple students complained about the inattentiveness and off-task behaviors of a few 1st graders......until other students pointed out the same behaviors by those who were complaining.  The teachers were pleased to see improved learning behaviors by some of their most difficult students.
